Why KNX

Freedom to choose.
A system that can evolve.

Choosing KNX means building automation around a shared standard: lighting, climate and shading can work together, using products from different brands and functions tailored to the people using the space.

An open standardDifferent brandsFrom small to large installations

PRACTICAL BENEFITS

From an apartment to a large building.

An apartment, a shop, a villa, a hotel or an office complex: KNX suits installations of different sizes and levels of complexity. Functions and components are selected to match requirements and budget, with room to expand the system over time.

An open standard

KNX is an open communication standard for building systems. Sensors, controls and actuators share a common language, independent of any single manufacturer.

Used around the world

KNX is used in homes, offices, hotels and complex buildings worldwide. An international network of manufacturers and professionals supports the system.

Different brands, one system

KNX-certified devices from different brands can operate in the same installation. Each component is selected for the functions, performance and budget the project requires.

Design freedom

Keypads, touchscreens and thermostats come in different styles, materials and finishes. You can choose controls from several manufacturers to complement the interiors.

Room to grow

You can start with essential functions and add rooms, controls or integrations. Planning the infrastructure from the outset makes future expansion easier.

Continuity of support

The shared standard enables qualified KNX professionals to work on the installation. Keeping the programming project and documentation makes maintenance and changes easier.

FREEDOM TO COMBINE

Choose the products.
KNX connects them.

A keypad chosen for its finish can control lights through another brand’s actuator and recall a temperature setting. Programming brings these functions together.

An “Away” scene can switch off the lights and set the climate controls to absence mode. With a suitable control interface, functions can also be managed from a smartphone, at home or remotely.

With suitable interfaces, KNX can also communicate with other systems, such as DALI and Control4.

THE ECONOMIC PICTURE

Costs and value over time.

A choice of manufacturers and components allows the installation to be tailored to the required functions and budget. For equivalent specifications, KNX can be more cost-effective than some proprietary solutions, considering both the initial installation and future expansion.

Component selection

Comparing manufacturers and functions helps balance design, performance and budget.

Changes and replacements

Working on individual compatible components can help contain upgrade costs while retaining the rest of the installation.

Energy use

Adjusting lighting and climate to occupancy, schedules and room use can reduce waste. Results depend on the building and the programming.
